As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is just around the corner, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) organized the first phase of the IPL auction where the franchisees bought cricketers to play for their team. In this article, we are writing about the top five most expensive cricketers of IPL 2021. The list will follow a descending order.
5. K Gowtham – CSK—9.25Cr:
Gowtham had a disappointing IPL season and featured in just two matches last year. But his big-hitting reputation and tight bowling made him a bargain buy at a base price of 20l. KKR and SRH tried to outdo each other, but CSK entered the fray late to pouch him.

4. Jhye Richardson—PBKS—14Cr:
Richardson was rewarded for a good BBL-10, where he finished as the top wicket-taker. RCB and DC started the bidding war for the Aussie pacer before PBKS swooped in to outmuscle them and got him at almost ten (10) times his base price.

3. Glenn Maxwell—RCB—14.25Cr:
Maxwell flopped badly in IPL 2020 scoring just 108 runs in 11 innings for Punjab. But he was expected to make news at the auction. RCB and CSK went all out for the big show, with Bangalore finally getting him onboard.

2. Kyle Jamieson—RCB—15Cr:
Jamieson was expected to go for big bucks after his stunning debut against India last year. DC and RCB were vying for the tall 26-yr old who was listed at a base price of 75L. PBKS’ entry intensified the bidding war. But RCB broke the bank to bag him for 15Cr.

1. Chris Morris—RR—16.25Cr:
The Protea all-rounder was released by RCB after an injury-prone season last year. However, his utilities weren’t lost on anyone. As MI, RCB and RR engaged in a fierce bidding battle which saw him go for a whopping 16.25Cr, the highest ever in the history of IPL.
