Wash Programs:
Washing machines nowadays comes
with various wash features equipped. These different wash features help the
washing machine to wash different type of clothes effectively and efficiently.
These also help the customer to choose the washing machine according to their
needs. Let us look at the different wash programs.
The different wash programs are:
- Quick Wash:
This program is present in almost all automatic washing machine. This is meant to wash the clothes in very less time, usually 15-30 mins. However, in this program there is a limit on the number of clothes it takes which is generally less than the usual number. - Daily Wash:This feature is meant for washing regular clothes and undies. It is the simplest program and uses the least amount of water, detergent and electricity.
- Pre-soak:This feature is used for heavily soiled and dirty clothes. In this program, the washing machine first soaks and agitates the dirty clothes before starting the wash cycle.
- Cotton:This is usually a special program meant to wash cotton clothes. It uses hot water to thoroughly wash the clothes.
- Synthetics/ Easy Care:This program is used for non-cotton garments like polyester and viscose that needs more delicate wash. Most machines do not have this feature as a separate wash program. Instead they club it with the Delicate wash program.
- Woolens/ Delicate:The woolen and delicate clothes can suffer damage if they are washed in regular mode. Hence, this wash program is given. This program uses low temperature with minimum drum rotation to keep the clothe away from wear and tear.
Wash Features:
Let us now talk about some
additional features that washing machines offer. These may be considered as an
added bonus if it is found in a machine that fits the customers budget.
- RPM Choice:RPM means Revolution per Minute. Basically, it is the speed at which the drum can spin. The higher the number, the better the washing machine is at squeezing water out of the clothes. In turn, it decreases the drying time of the clothes. Some washing machine allows the user to set the rpm according to the clothes they are washing.
- Spin Cycle:This feature is used for drying the clothes and is determined by RPM, i.e., Revolutions per Minute. The higher the rpm, the better it will dry the clothes. However, the drying time also depends on the type and material of clothes. For example, frail and soft clothes require 300-500 rpm while it is about 1000 rpm for thicker clothes like jeans.
- Temperature Control:Machines that lets the user adjust the temperature is useful to control the temperature for different kinds of wash. The temperature can be increased for soiled clothes or it can be decreased for a cold wash to save energy. Higher temperatures allow the detergents to work better, hence removes the stains easily.
- Time Delay:It is a convenient feature if the user has already loaded the washing machine but wants to delay the washing cycle until he is ready.
- Bubble Wash:Having the bubble wash feature in the washing machine is helpful as it produces many bubbles to go deeper into the fabric and clean the clothes deeply and thoroughly. Different brands have different terms for this mode, for example, Samsung calls it ‘Eco Bubble’, while Panasonic markets it as ‘Active Foam’.
- Fuzzy Logic:
This feature can be the most useful feature of a washing machine if the user knows the correct usage. Fuzzy logic is a feature that selects the most appropriate washing conditions automatically, depending on the quality of the clothes being washed. In addition to that, fuzzy logic also notices and observes the weight of the laundry and subsequently calculates the amount of time, washing powder and water needed to clean the laundry. Hence, the user has no hassle regarding the settings of the washing machine. - Dryer:
Available only on selected machines, this feature dries the clothes completely after the wash cycle, so that the are ready to wear when the clothes are taken out.
Conclusion

Moreover, washing machines are also less expensive and requires less maintenance with each technological improvement that comes. However, as pointed out in the article, we can see that top-load washing machines are less expensive and require less maintenance, whereas front-load washing machines are better in efficiency and performance.
